May 19 - RECs plummet: what goes up...

The past couple of weeks have seen a variety of factors change in the marketplace resulting in a dramatic about face in the price of Renewable Energy Certificates.  RECs which were trading off highs of $47 and $48 dollars just weeks ago have plummet in value to around $35 in the open market, shaving 1/4 of their price in days.

The practical upshot of this is that the prices of solar systems is about to go back up, and very quickly.

The impact of the drastic drop in REC value is compounded by the recent instability in the Euro and the retreat into the relative "safe haven" of the US dollar.  This has seen the value of the Euro hit four year lows against the greenback, and despite the stability of the AUD in comparison to the Euro, the demand for USD has hit the AUD hard, dropping to under 85.5¢ against the USD from highs of 93¢ just weeks ago.

So what does this mean for the value of solar systems?

Prices of solar systems are very shortly going to be on the rise again.

If you are looking to take advantage of a Solar Array on your home, then do so before the prices rise.
